Deleting print jobs windows vista

If you restart the spooler you are effectively killing off all jobs from all printers. You'll have staff queing up at the printers wondering where their print jobs are. Thanks for the tip.

I was unable to delete a printer because of these jobs. I had to stop the spool service first, but then could remove all print jobs, and remove the printer. I just had the problem on windows 7. Simple file delete from the spooler after shutting down the service worked great. It didn't event prompt to ask are you sure, are you really sure, didn't ask me if I was happy for the experience, or if I wanted to send feedback.

It just worked! This solution worked for me - I had tried all MS fix it and other solutions, both from the MS web sites and from within VIsta, with out success. For those who might not know how to turn off the Windows spooler service, just click on the start menu, type services. Then find a service named Print Spooler and stop it and then delete the Printers files. Hope it helps. Ran into same problem trying to print odd size document, which hung the printer and could not be removed on Win Vista.

Before I had to delete the printer and reinstall, but even that hung in permanent delete mode. This trick worked and I have isolated a bug when printing odd size docs out of Word that hang everything related to printing.

Thanks for the info. We get this problem a lot. I work in a college, we have both network printers and local USB printers. There seems to be no specific reason why this happens. It gets a bit annoying when we have to do this on a local printer, as the logged in user does not have the permissions to run the CMD, so we have to change user or use a hack to get the CMD up.

I would like to know what actually causes this document "hang". Why in the world did Microsoft never fix this stupid, stupid print bug? I've had it happen to me on 7 just as much as Vista. Letting the script instantly remove the driver after Print Spooler has been restarted usually works.

Thank you so much Davinci!! Took a couple of tries to get the timing down just right, but it worked like a charm!! Took me about 5 tries to restart the spooler service and click remove print driver before I got the timing right.

Trick seemed to be, as soon as you click restart service, start clicking remove driver dont wait for it, or you'll be too slow. I had a similar situation- couldn't remove drivers from Remote Desktop Session Host servers w2k8r2. After trying everything I could think of I didn't try the "Magic Timing" method mentioned above I finally manually removed the drivers and their files.

C'mon Microsoft- look at all of the posts on the internet and even on your own technet sites about this problem and FIX it. I waste a day trying to get a driver off of a machine. That's wasted time I can little afford. This is not working for me. Still getting "The specified printer driver is currently in use".

BTW for an x64 Win7 system the command syntax is. Then we stopped print spooler 3. We renamed all Print Processors that were listed. Like Winprint to Winprint. We started print spooler 6. Renamed back all Print Processors back to Winprint. Restart print spooler Installed new printer drivers Tested printing.

A restart and a driver installation later my colleague was able to print on our new Canon Printer properly. I tried to remove using Print Server, Regedit, and a lot of fixes that i found, but only this works.

Copy and paste the following text as separate lines into the blank document:. You can now double-click that batch file to clear the print spooler whenever you want.

Sometimes, clearing a single stuck document will get your printer going again and any other print jobs in the queue can finish printing normally. Other times, you might have to cancel all the currently printing documents and then try printing them again.

The print queue window shows the print jobs currently awaiting printing. If the cancellation was successful, the document should disappear from the print queue and the printer will start printing the next document in line. All the documents in the queue should disappear and you can try printing a new document to see if it works. But hopefully, these steps have helped fix your stuck print job before going that far.
